I Got A Good Thing

Description

Original Gravity Records returns with a brand new double-sider pairing Junior Dell & The D-Lites with Boss Foundation. On the A-side, Junior Dell & The D-Lites deliver “I Got A Good Thing,” an infectious slice of vintage Jamaican-style vocal music sitting right on that sweet spot between rocksteady and early reggae. Dell rides the rhythm with an easy, assured vocal, celebrating the simple realisation that when you've found a good thing, you'd better hold on to it. Flip the record over for “Pablo’s Last Stand,” a heavyweight instrumental from Boss Foundation. A tougher proposition than the vocal side, the track opens around a commanding lead organ before the trombone steps forward, all driven by a deep early-reggae rhythm. Pistol shots and a distinctly spaghetti-western atmosphere add to the cinematic feel. The title was inspired by the story of Mexican drug trafficker Pablo Acosta Villarreal and his final stand, as depicted in Narcos: Mexico — an image that helped shape the track's western-flavoured atmosphere. Together, the two sides show different faces of the Original Gravity sound: the warmth and immediacy of a classic vocal cut on one side, and a darker, heavyweight instrumental workout on the other.
