Description

Mr. K goes to church on this double-sided special showcasing two rare ’70s gospel burners, handpicked and reworked for the floor by the edit master himself. Rowena Preston and the Voices of Deliverance bring the fire on ‘I Must Be Ready’, a stirring slab of ’70s gospel funk with a banging piano-led intro hook. As the enveloping song sways and rises with emotion, shifting into a rolling groove, the powerful, intricate vocals cut through, hitting you right in the chest. Mr. K tightens and extends the best moments from this rare cut, making it equally ready for Sunday morning devotion or Saturday night abandon. The flip side raises the energy with ‘Open Up Your Heart’, a joyous burst of spirit from an unnamed female gospel artist, and a longtime secret weapon in the Krivit crate. The track is pure uplift, with a chugging beat, a driving bassline and exemplary gospel vocals raised high, all begging to be heard on a big system. Mr. K’s edit lets the thumping rhythm breathe and stretch out, making this mystery gem an easy fit for the dancefloor. Both cuts prove that the line between the pulpit and the DJ booth has never been very wide. Available on loud, meticulously mastered 7-inch for the first time from Most Excellent Unlimited.
