Butter Side Up Records has put together a first-ever remix EP which is due to land in March 2024. It finds Gene On Earth, Garrett David, Huerta, and Driss Bennis aka OCB all adding their own spin to the still standout originals from the album Sweely released here in 2022, and it comes with original artwork from Max Binski.

Each artist was given the freedom to pick any track from the Closer Energy LP and do with it as they please. First up is Limousine Dream man and new school favourite Gene On Earth who flips ‘Minilook’ into one of his signature tech house cuts. It’s a lively one with warped cosmic lines and plenty of pent-up funk. Next up is Gramaphone Records and Smart Bar Chicago resident Garrett David. He converts ‘Security’ into a punchy cut with hints of garage percussion. It’s run through with future-facing synths and bright chord stabs that up the energy levels next to ravey sirens.

Berlin-based American Huerta is synonymous with plenty of tasty tunes on the likes of his own Leizure as well as Slow Life, Small Hours and many more. His remix of ‘Call Me Tonight’ is a warm and balmy trip to the stars on muted neon lines and surging house drums that are effortlessly slick and compelling. Last but not least, Casa Voyager’s Moroccan talent Driss Bennis does it all from silky electro to pumping techno and here reworks ‘Not Part Of It’ to perfection: the wonky bassline never quits, the raw drums are perfectly designed, and the chords are drenched in hi-tek soul.

These are four masterfully functional but always fun cuts for house connoisseurs everywhere.
