Following the release of Long Island Sound’s captivating ‘Fracture’ EP in January, two of the standout tracks from the release have been reimagined by two of Europe’s most distinctive electronic talents. Keeping the essence of the Dublin duo’s originals alive whilst injecting their sonic signatures is no small feat. Yet, London’s Otik and Berlin-based Spray have more than risen to the occasion.
The first of two remixes to be released is Otik’s requiem-esque take on ‘Flare’. It easily captures you in its wake. Playing on huge, reverberated spaces for vocal elements to drift off into around a potent core of sophisticated drum and bass grooves, sweeping sub-bass and dreamy arps, it’s a literal cenote of modern-day underground electronic artistry.
Offering dynamic contrast from Otik’s remix, Spray’s spin on ‘Fracture’ reeks of nostalgic big beat and Balearic trance energy throughout. An addictive blend of two seminal dance genres brought to life with a refreshingly current facelift, its chorus of bouncy organs, rave like arps and pacey Eurodance rhythms are endlessly danceable – and then some!
