USIQ, the new EP from Vase, is the debut release on DSP Sound, a new experimental label based in Berlin. The label deals in post-rave footwork, 2-step and ambient, filtered through abstract electronics. It’s run by Jorge Camacho, whose work as Vase, Downstairs People, Games and Department has appeared on Index:Records, Opal Tapes and Saplings. Across five tracks, dismantled breakbeats and discordant synth harmonies are layered with ghostly vocal samples, all driven by custom Max/MSP sequencing and processing. Closer “Black Sloth Metal” features co-production from Xenia Reaper. The result is raw, effects-soaked studio work that drifts between half-remembered dancefloors and the listening room, a striking opening for the label. Limited to 150 copies on clear vinyl
