Recorded in Paris in 1981 for Bessoso’s first album, “Hey Lalango!” is one of our favourite tracks from the repertoire of Balthazar Nsue, aka Bessoso, one of the pioneers of Equatorial Guinea’s music scene. Sung in Fang, it combines the rhythmic drive of Central African music with touches of Latin influence, carried by Bessoso’s distinctive, velvet-toned voice. The song later found its way across Central and West Africa, from Nigeria to Gabon and Congo. For this new 45 vinyl, Montréal DJ and producer Poirier reworks “Hey! Lalango”, keeping its hypnotic essence while giving it a fresh rhythmic drive made for the dancefloor.
