Description

Second Circle presents ‘God Knows’, a new release from Belgrade-based group Tapan. Centred around producers Nebojša Bogdanović and Goran Simonoski, Tapan have developed a distinctive musical language over the past decade, drawing together slow-burning electronics, jazz improvisation, live percussion and psychedelic atmospheres. Rooted in Belgrade’s club culture, their music has always occupied a space somewhere between the dancefloor and more open-ended forms of listening, unfolding patiently through repetition, texture and improvisation. Across four extended pieces, ‘God Knows’ pushes further into this territory. Electronic rhythms and dubwise low-end provide a loose framework for an expanded group of musicians, with Pavle Popov and Vukašin Đelić on guitars, Jamal Alkiswani moving between saxophone, flute and zurla, and Feđa Franklin and Marko Milivojević adding layers of drums and percussion. Rather than separating electronic and acoustic elements, the album allows them to bleed into one another, creating a dense, constantly shifting sound world. There is a darker current running through ‘God Knows’. The album circles around feelings of disorientation, fractured relationships, urban loneliness and spiritual uncertainty—an attempt to hold onto meaning within an increasingly unstable and overwhelming world. The music reflects this tension without resolving it: rhythms stretch and repeat, instruments appear and disappear, and moments of intimacy sit alongside a more distant, nocturnal atmosphere. Recorded between Hill River and La Plant studios, the four tracks flow through Tapan’s familiar combination of hypnotic pulse, live instrumentation and spacious electronics, stretching their sound into some of its most immersive territory yet.
