A dreamlike journey through colour, memory and the quiet language of nature. funcionário's eighth album brings together acoustic textures and digital processes in a deeply organic exploration of sound. Glossy Mistakes proudly announces cor, the eighth full-length album by Portuguese artist funcionário, arriving on November 27th. A continuation of his ongoing exploration of sound, cor unfolds as a collection of intimate sonic landscapes, where acoustic instruments, digital processes and fragments of memory converge into something both familiar and elusive. cor moves through a dreamlike landscape of shifting colours and suspended moments. A journey into the wisdom of trees and the soft light of a quiet sky, where the boundaries between the organic and the synthetic become increasingly blurred. Almost like a mixtape, each of the album's twelve compositions carries its own colour, shaped at different moments and in different states of mind. Yet, beneath their individual identities, subtle connections emerge: melodies, textures and fragments from one piece reappear in another, weaving an invisible thread throughout the record. As funcionário describes it, "the album is a continuum of previous work, where acoustic elements meet digital processing and original material is revisited through improvisation and vaporwave-inspired sampling techniques". The album gradually draws the listener inward, moving between moments of stillness and sudden flashes of brightness. From the delicate Fourth World-inspired percussion of moda to the gamelan textures of lotus, and the environmental recordings woven into azul mistério, each composition opens a different window into funcionário's singular sonic universe. There is an understated sense of movement throughout, an interplay of vivid details and gentle atmospheres that gives the record its own organic pulse. Across its twelve tracks, cor feels less like a linear journey than a landscape to wander through, where sounds drift, dissolve and find their way back in unexpected forms. An intimate reflection on the interconnectedness of things, guided by an almost imperceptible dialogue between nature, memory and imagination. Quoting Gary Snyder: "As the crickets' soft autumn hum is to us, So are we to the trees as are they to the rocks and the hills." Perhaps this is where cor finds its deepest resonance: in the quiet recognition that everything is part of something larger, connected through rhythms and vibrations that extend far beyond ourselves. A record full of life, speaking, in the most organic way, the universal language of music.
