Description

GEMS rounding out a stella year with another essential chapter in the underground UK tech-house story. Pete Hurst and Jiten Acharya ,(original co-founder of Swag Records – Croydon) two producers whose work helped shape the deeper, more sophisticated side of the scene during the mid-1990s. Recording primarily at State 51 Studios (Bermondsey) and SWAG Studio (Croydon), the duo became closely associated with the emerging London underground movement, often dedicating tracks to scene pioneers such as Nathan Coles and the legendary Wiggle collective. Sloth & Dormant: The principal collaboration between Hurst and Acharya, Sloth & Dormant, delivered a string of understated yet highly influential tech-house landmarks. Their productions masterfully combined deep grooves, rolling percussion, and hypnotic atmospheres that perfectly encapsulated the sound of London's late-night underground. Standout releases include "Yellow Cake / Bush Life" (Thrive, 1997) and the highly sought-after "The Light Comes On / Here and Now" (SUBT002, 1997)—both universally regarded as quintessential examples of the era's stripped-back, forward-thinking aesthetic. Three Brides: Originally released in 1996 on Wax Trax Records (WAX002), Three Brides showcased the duo at their most inventive. Featuring both the seminal original and dub mixes, the release seamlessly blended deep house sensibilities with the emerging tech-house blueprint—delivering rolling rhythms, intricate textures, and warm analogue grooves. Today, it remains a heavily prized underground artifact. Here is your chance to secure two killer releases—both currently commanding big prices on Discogs—for the price of a single record!
