Wa Wu We Patterns is a new label from Sebastian Mullaert, dedicated to his ever-evolving explorations of improvisation and spontaneity. The initial releases will explore faster tempos and the more energetic territories of house and techno. At the heart of each release are two different live interpretations of the same musical seeds, exploring how rhythm, melody and energy can shift, transform and take on different shapes. The music is created through Sebastian's four-step process, which is based on the idea of allowing a musical forest to come to life, a forest that becomes a deep and wide expression of the artist. Each track represents one temporary possibility, one expression within the ongoing exploration of that forest. The label also brings together two of Sebastian's passions: music and nature photography. Through his lens, the patterns and expressions of the natural world become an extension of his ongoing exploration of creativity. Each release features one of his photographs as the cover artwork, accompanied by a separate four-colour printed poster. The first release, When the Night Kissed We Winnowed Away, explores two contrasting expressions of the dance floor. The A-side moves into darker, edgier territory, where melodic tension meets driving rhythms. On the B-side, the same musical idea unfolds into something gentler and warmer, with a softer melodic expression. Two expressions, one origin.
