Description

Modern Obscure Music presents *Before the Strings (2014-2026)*, a limited-edition double vinyl collection bringing together ambient works by Pedro Vian recorded across twelve years, from 2014 to 2026. Spanning fifteen tracks, *Before the Strings* traces a quieter and more introspective side of Vian's musical practice. Rather than presenting a conventional retrospective, the record gathers pieces connected by a shared approach to atmosphere, space, and electronic composition-works that emerged at different moments but now form a new constellation when heard together. The collection opens with "Rest", an exclusive new production created especially for this edition and recorded using the Moog One synthesizer. The same instrument shapes the album's closing sequence, with two further exclusive productions, "In Heaven" and "In Peace", bringing the record to a slow and contemplative conclusion. Between these new works are recordings that reveal the breadth of Vian's ambient language: the hypnotic repetition and esotericism of "Uróboros", featuring strings performed by experimental violinist Asia; the cinematic drift of "Neue Nationalgalerie" originally released in The Sound of Space compilation; the opening track from his first album, "Pandora"; and the expansive "Una Storia Infinita". The collection also includes the first vinyl release of "The Hole", "Mother of Dragons", and "I am ok", giving these works a new physical context within the Modern Obscure Music catalogue. The album's only co-production is "Cascades III", made with longtime collaborator Daniele Mana. Together, the fifteen tracks move between minimal electronics, grainy textures, and deeply personal ambient compositions, creating a record that feels less like a chronological archive than a continuous emotional drift.
