STORIES IN THE WOMB

Description

Okayama drummer and electronic rhythmist Takafumi Okada aka Nboj Tespo returns with a new album following up last year’s ‘Blessed Planet’. Takafumi had already been road-testing some of the tracks while on tour last autumn, but it was the arrival of a baby this year that brought renewed inspiration and a cohesive focus to this new collection of tracks. Taking an embryonic viewpoint, ‘Stories In The Womb’ charts the development and experiences of the fetus with a heady dose of imagination. The result is another unique universe of sound design, focussing on bassier tones to capture the feelings of being enveloped, warmly immersed like being inside a stomach. There are real sounds in there too - ‘Umbilical Chant’ features the sound of the baby’s umbilical cord, while ‘Bye Placenta’ captures the first cry in the delivery room amid pinging synths, polyrhythmic pulses and layered organesque figures. 'Stories In The Womb' tells that tale of growth and development, but also imagines how it might feel. In doing so, Takafumi has translated the wonder of a truly special experience into a mesmerising psychedelic tone bath for the whole body.
