Debut album flex from Nordic heavyweight Ekkel. Unfurling dank forest-floor minimalism straight out of the early-’00s Scandi prog playbook. Unhurried, groove-fwd and made of moss and mist. Deft precision and insectoid detail skitter underfoot. Channelling the Swedish-Danish axis of Spiral Trax and Creamcrop Records like a true disciple. Pared right back and wound tight, the tension doesn’t let up for a second. Heavy on the low end and properly gloomy with it. Disembodied vocals summon haunted spirits and divine feminine frequencies. Eerie and levitational, with plenty of late-nite throb. Elsewhere, it evokes intrepid interstellar exploration and early synth experiments – one track sports a synth line that wouldn’t be out of place on a BBC Radiophonic Workshop retrospective.
